Encountering His heart for you through creativity.

Art Sozo enables you to connect your emotions to the heart of God and allow His healing to take place. The activity of painting helps to bypass roadblocks and allow God's truth to shine through on canvas and speak deeply into hearts. No artist experience is necessary to be able to enjoy Art Sozo.

The Art Sozo Workshop is a group workshop where participants are led through a series of painting activities to help them encounter the Godhead. Each activity builds upon the last to provide an atmosphere of vulnerability and safety as part of the process is sharing the art pieces with the others in their table group. No art experience is necessary as this is encounter art and it is more about the process than the end product. During our workshops, we find many have deep breakthrough as the process of doing art bypasses logical defenses and can access areas needing healing that have not been touched before.

Testimonies

  • “I feel hopeful, joyful and comforted. He told me I was enough. He loves me. I am fruitful! His love burns in me!”

    Irmgard L.

  • “I was able to find a lie that I didn’t realize was there that was interfering with the worship of God that I desired. The lie was that Jesus didn’t care. I had trouble believing that I believed that but went with the flow. I thought I had forgiven, but this helped me express it more deeply. God revealed that He not only cared but had a deep passion toward me.”

    Jan M.

  • “It was a special time with Jesus, hearing His heart, and experiencing His peace. I feel His love and His closeness.”

    Kathy R.

  • “I’ve been working on forgiving myself. I feel there was some healing and progress was made today.”

    Brandon R.

  • “I enjoyed the process, even though at first it seemed scary and vulnerable. I was abused physically by my mother, and she confessed how she choked me at age 6.5 years. I had repressed this bad experience, and God has been uncovering this slowly and surely. The same with molestation and abuse by my father and this was hard for me to understand why. So, the process of painting my emotions was helpful. I feel better and like I can express myself more freely. I believe more so that He cared and delivered me from these bad experiences and it’s not just head knowledge, but I feel safe and free to paint.

    Cathy S.

  • “It helped open my love for paint again, and open my eyes to use the journal I have. I have healed and I can open up to the future.”

    Kim B.

  • “I never painted before, but I’m venturing out to risk. It was really special. I’m really struggling in my walk with God, and I did connect with Him today.”

    Antonia S.

 FAQs

  • We start promptly at the designated time. If you are more than 15 minutes late, then we will need reschedule you for our next workshop. Due to the sensitive nature of Sozo and the need for all participants to hear group instructions, we don't want you to miss out on the full experience as well as steward a safe and intimate atmosphere for other attenders.

  • We do not allow any food at any time during the workshop, so please make sure to eat beforehand. Because Art Sozo is designed for participants to be in tune with their emotions while they are encountering God, food can often serve as a means of distraction or suppress any discomfort participants might experience when confronting areas God wants to heal.

    Bottled water will be available.

  • No, we ask that you refrain from bringing any art supplies with you. Everything needed for each activity is already provided for you ahead of time as part of your registration fee.. If you run out of supplies or paint at any time, our team will assist you in replenishing your materials.

  • Unfortunately, we are an active church, and other ministries reserve our Youth Hall throughout the week. We ask that you take all of your paintings home with you at the close of the workshop, so please plan accordingly. We will provide parchment paper to help protect surfaces from wet paint. Any items left behind will need to be discarded.

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome to join our workshops. Due to the length of time, and the required focus, we find children can struggle and might distract others from their own encounter. If you are interested in a workshop geared for children, please email us at sozo@bethesdanw.com.

  • We don’t assign any seating at our group tables, and seating is open and guests are free to choose their own seating. However, we do highly recommend sitting at different tables to allow yourself as much freedom to be vulnerable with your table group during activities.

It is not unusual that God might address something personal that you may not want to share with your friend/family, or you may find you may need to forgive that person for something during an activity.

  • There will be 4 guided and timed painting pieces that build on each other and we allow opportunities to share your experience with your table group as part of the healing process. We also schedule in time for our team to transition your table supplies between activities. We stick to a tight schedule to make room for all of the activities. So please be mindful when we are sharing to leave time and space for everyone in your group.

  • Each of our facilitators have been trained in inner healing and are prepared to guide you through any areas you feel stuck or triggered, as well as make time after the workshop is over to help you through any areas you need additional support in. We find this form of inner healing partnered with a creative outlet actually helps release difficult emotions in a gentle and loving way.

Our team spends time in prayer leading up to the start of the workshop to ensure a peaceful and safe environment. We also have intercessors actively praying during the workshop for each person attending.

  • Yes, our team is happy to schedule you for an individual session. Please email us at sozo@bethesdanw.com for more information.

Meet the Team

  • Liz Lewis

Liz is the co-founder and director of Kainos Creatives Ministry at Bethesda. She has over 20 years of ministry experience from serving children in kid’s ministry, both in teaching and leadership roles, administration, and discipling people.

In 2020, Liz joined our Bethesda Inner Healing & Deliverance team and has since served as a lead facilitator and trainer. She has a passion to see the people set free and realize their full identity in Christ, live out their full potential, and enjoy just how good God really is!

“The week my first Art Sozo session was scheduled we had got a bad, final report from the infertility doctor and I was in a deep state of grief and emotional pain. The lie that I was believing was that the promises of God only lead to pain and grief. Jesus told me He didn’t want to just take my grief away, but He wanted to grieve with me, and He wanted me to know my process of grief was precious to Him - it was worship. I had painted a big tear drop, and as the layers of healing happened throughout the process, the teardrop became a flame filled with the colors of the rainbow! Father God told me He was proud of me for my faithfulness to believe and submit myself to the transformation of enduring faith. He told me He would turn my tears into intercession and spark a flame of revival that will impact the generations coming after me.”

  • Tamicka Wolfe

Tamicka is a clinical supervisor at a local non-profit mental health agency.  She has a master's in psychology with a focus on child and adolescent development.  She had her first Sozo in 2019, after going through some major life altering events, and fell in love with the process of the Sozo and experienced such freedom that she wanted to get involved and help others get the same freedom.  Tamicka completed the basic and advanced Sozo training and joined a ministry team in Rainier OR.  In 2023, she joined the Bethesda Inner Healing and Deliverance team and completed the Art Sozo training in 2024.

“My first Art Sozo experience was life-changing, and I am still walking out layers of freedom I received.  I learned that I was believing a lie that my emotions were bad, and they were too much for God. I learned that the truth was, He gave me all of my emotions and when I process them with Him, I am safe, and emotions are a tool.  In the coming months, trials and situations came and I was able to allow myself to feel emotions in a safe way and not hide them.  I am still walking out this journey but am so much better than I was before the Art Sozo.  I am truly thankful for this tool, and I absolutely love watching others get freedom in very powerful ways.”

  • Gabrielle Ciobanu

Gabrielle attended Bethel Supernatural School of Ministry in 2019, where she learned about God’s heart for creativity through prophetic art in the Create Academy Apprenticeship Program. You may have seen her painting on stage during Bethesda’s Sunday service. She also has a background in Healthcare and Public Service.

In 2024, Gabrielle completed the Basic Sozo Training and completed the Art Sozo Leadership Training in 2025. At a young age she heard the voice of God and has been tender to His voice since. Ultimately, she has a passion for partnering with God to see people set free and unlocked into their destiny through creativity.

“When I was in grade school I shut down my creativity and partnered with the lie that I wasn’t creative. Through attending Bethel Supernatural School of Ministry there was offered the Create Academy Apprenticeship Program and I learned how to paint with the Holy Spirit. One day, I put paint to paper with the direction of the Holy Spirit and He showed me in my painting there were things I was trying to do on my own apart from Him. He wanted to bring me into a place of trusting in Him at a deeper measure. In that place, I found a new freedom in my relationship with God; which is very similar to Art Sozo. Eventually after growing my skills in prophetic art. I was led by the Holy Spirit to the Basic Sozo Training and Art Sozo Leadership Training. I’m looking forward to seeing what freedom He brings to people around me through Art Sozo!”
